Bendix King AeroVue Touch Integrated Flight Deck
Problem:
Bendix King as a legacy avionics brand had a declining legacy product portfolio and needed new products to accelerate organic growth. I was part of a new business leadership team that was assembled where I built out and lead a UX design team to create new, exciting avionics products for pilots and operators. Enterprise UX design was identified as a key strategic lever to deliver exceptional product experiences and drive organic growth. The result was 7 new products delivered over 3 years. This includes AeroVue Touch IFD resulting in a 27% increase in revenue year over year and 14.6% margin expansion.
Design research has revealed that General Aviation pilots suffer high cognitive workload and lower situational awareness while operating aircraft with analog flight instruments. The AeroVue Touch Smart Display Integrated Flight Deck improves safety by providing pilot’s with advanced features and an innovative HMI for better usability. The UX opportunity was to deliver a superior E2E HW & SW User Experience that delivers exceptional value to end customers while delivering excellent business results for Bendix King. Winner, 2018 Good Design Award.
